Structure
The RESB is run as a partnership between employers, public funders and providers of skills provision in the South West. The Partnership comprises of the following:
Central Team
The RESB has a core central team that supports the wider activity of the Partnership.
The Board
The Board provides strategic leadership, driving action to resolve problems and championing collaborative working. The Board is responsible for setting priorities and determining the skills strategy and for ensuring that the Partnership’s regional and national skills objectives are met.
The Alliance
The wider Alliance represents key stakeholders in the skills arena and is the consultative body, bringing emerging issues to the forum and consequently to the Board for action. The forty plus members of the Alliance bring together a range of specialist interests and expertise from business and skills organisations.
The Alliance partners are responsible for communicating the needs of the business and learning community in the region in order to refine the RESB’s objectives and to develop joint actions. Thematic Alliance meetings are held quarterly and provide an opportunity for partners to consider, analyse and debate key skills issues on a particular topic. Recommendations are then made to the Board for consideration and action.
Standing Groups
In addition to the Board and the Alliance, the Partnership undertakes much of its detailed work through a series of Standing Groups that focus and agree partner actions in specific areas. Examples include the Higher Education Association for South West England lead HE Forum, the Learning and Skills Council lead Brokerage Group and the South West Regional Development Agency lead STEM Group.
The Standing Groups are all led by one of the Partner organisations and membership of the groups varies depending on the theme of the group. Standing Groups agree joint or individual actions to deal with identified issues.
Sectors
The Partnership has a strong regional approach to sectors work which is articulated through our engagement with the Alliance of Sectors Skills Councils.
