The RESB is working with partners to help employers and individuals cope with the consequences of the economic crisis by ensuring there is a well coordinated public sector response.
The regional response to the crisis is being led by the South West Regional Economic Task Group (RETG), chaired by Jim Knight MP, the regional Minister. There are five strands of working being taken forward by the group:
- Skills and Employment;
- Resilience of public services;
- Infrastructure and construction;
- Support for business; and the
- Green Economic Recovery Action Group
The work on Skills and Employment is being taken forward by the People, Employment and Skills Group (PESG) which reports to both the RETG and the RESP Boards and meets every six weeks. The aim is to integrate and join up existing and new offers, to ensure a better service to employers and individuals.
At a local level eight Area Action Forces have been set up to support and advise businesses dealing with redundancies and closures. The action forces convene all the relevant local partners and pull together a support package which can include training.
